How can I get a certified copy of a certificate of incorporation? A legal duplicate of an original?

Can you answer Laura S's question about Incorporation?:

I know I can get it through incorporation registry services on the web. Is there any way to get it directly from the Secretary of State or some other government agency? Thanks.

Yes. Almost all states have an online service at the Secretary of State's office. Go to, where xx is the two-letter postal code for the state, and navigate from there. You're going to have to get creative, as no two states set up their websites the same way. Corporation services may be reached in some states through the link for "Business services," "starting a business" or similar facilities.
